GLASTONBURY
With the scored tied at 1, the game was suspended in the 2nd due to lightning. The Open Solutions’ players grumbled about the quick call by the ump. Sure there had been some thunder and a half dozen ragged lightning bolts beyond the left field fence, but it wasn’t like it was actually raining yet. It wasn’t like they were actually getting wet.
So what if they were waving aluminum bats above their heads. So what if waving aluminum bats at lightning is like waving chum at a shark. So what if the lightning bolts were full 100-million volt ground-strikes. They wanted to play.
Soon, though, the rains came in a fury and shut everyone up. Electrocution may be annoying, but no one wants to catch cold from being out in the rain.
Unfortunately, Team OSI wasn’t playing badly, either. The score was tied at 1; they had (amazingly) made a few slick fielding plays; and everyone was starting to feel pretty cocky. They started talking about actually winning.
Then again, it was only the 2nd inning.
The game will be resumed on Friday, June 8.
